of life that became America.

VIRGINIA INDIANS 400 YEARS
OF SURVIVAL
Eight Indian tribes from
all over Virginia will host a
conference where everyone can
listen to speakers and panel
discussions of the history of
Native Americans since the
English settlers landed in 1607.
You will learn about Indian law,
myths and economic development.
On the second day, attendees can
tour Virginia Indian
reservations.

ANNIVERSARY

Revolutionary war
re-enactors and active military
units from the U.S. and around
the world will salute the
victory at Yorktown that won
liberty for America. All framed
by parades, the arrival of tall
ships, patriotic music and – of
course, fireworks! Head for the
Yorktown National Battlefield,
Riverwalk Landing and the
Yorktown Victory Center.

the beginning of America weren’t
created in a vacuum. Major
museums around the world and
rare collections are lending
artifacts and art to the
Jamestown Settlement’s enlarged
galleries for a once in a
lifetime display of the world
that created America. Including
a 15th-century copy
of the Magna Carta and a 16th-
century African ivory
carving.

JAMES RIVER SAIL
In April and May the
original landing of the settlers
in Virginia will be commemorated
during voyages of the new
replica of the
Godspeed, arriving at
Jamestown May 11-13 for the
Anniversary Weekend. Ports of
call along the way will join in
the celebration. Each landfall
will be a party of art, music
and cultural festivities.

AMERICA’S ANNIVERSARY WEEKEND!
This weekend is going to be
wonderful but crowded. If

An event that
promises to be over the top –
with magnificent symphonic
music composed and played just
for this unique milestone in
America’s history.
Internationally-known performers
will be on stage and on giant
video screens long into the
night. There will be a special
children’s program called
Babaaah and Windigo
with animated characters. Then
a concert featuring a 400-piece
orchestra and 1,607 voices from
all over America, all new
“American Idols” in the truest
sense of that term. And, of
course – FIREWORKS as you’ve
never seen fireworks before –
arching the sky above Jamestown
from three different
directions. Bring your cameras

memories for every anniversary

Come to the mall in Washington,
DC and experience the basic
cultures that had so much
influence on the development of
Jamestown and America – the
English, the British Isles and
West Africa. No long lectures.

demonstrations of working and
farming by ordinary folk who
accomplished extraordinary
things.

AMERICAN INDIAN INTERTRIBAL
CULTURAL FESTIVAL
Eight Virginia tribes will adopt
you for two days. You will live
in the midst of Indian music,
storytelling, craft making,
dancing and children’s games.
You will have a chance to buy
and sample native foods, art,
crafts and jewelry.

the meanings and future of a
maturing Democracy in America
and around the world. These will
be the subjects of a year-long
series of conferences at
different Virginia colleges and
universities, leading up to a
